Help in Hard Times

The Library and the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Schoharie County are teaming up to help you manage in hard times on October 22, 2009 in the Library Community Room. Join us from 10am-noon for a workshop on "The Wise Use of Credit". Marilyn Janiczek will present this workshop on using credit wisely and avoiding the pit falls. She will also offer tips for paying down debt, obtaining and reviewing free credit reports, and understanding credit scores. Participants will receive free money management tools. Class size is limited. Please register at the Sharon Springs Free Library, 284-3126 or at the Extension Center, 234-4303.
The Library has also improved it's selection of books on resumes, job interviews, canning food, shopping for bargains, career options, gardening, inexpensive family fun activities and more. Our Hard Times project is made possible through a Community Connections Grant from the Mohawk Valley Library System. Summer Story and Craft Time

Elementary Game and Craft Time
Elementary students are invited to play games and enjoy crafts on the following Friday afternoons from 3-5pm: July 11 & 25. No registration is required. Our Wii and Playstation 2 will be available and kids are encouraged to bring games. This program is made possible with funds from the Wal-Mart Distributions Center.

Weave a Colorful Spider Web – July 16 at 10am
The Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College in Saratoga will be bringing a “suitcase” full of art to the Library to inspire young artists. Every child will create a colorful spider web to take home. Pre-registration is required and this program is for ages 7 and up.

Science in the Summer – July 28
This hands-on science program is for pre-school through middle school. It’s a drop-in program with no registration required. Stop in on July 28 between 1 and 3pm for a fun and educational experience. Teens interested in volunteering are urged to call the Library or speak to Mrs. Wolfe during Library hours. Science in the Summer is sponsored by GE Volunteers: A Global Organization of General Electric Volunteers and the Mohawk Valley Library System.

New York State Police K-9 Unit – July 29 at 10am
NYS Trooper Ed Cardinal will visit the Library to demonstrate how dogs are trained to help the police in their work. No registration required.

Build a Bug House – July 30 at 10am
Kathy Cerceri of Crafts for Learning will be here on July 30 at 10am to show kids how to build bug houses from recycled material such as a mayo jar ant farm and a shoebox worm bin. Every child will make a butterfly cage to take home. This program is for ages 7 and up and requires pre-registration. This program is made possible, in part, with Federal Library Services Technology Act funds awarded to the New York State Library by the Federal Institute of Museum and Library Services.

Halloween Movie for Adults Only!!
"I Drink Your Blood", filmed in Sharon Springs, will be shown in the Library on October 26 at 8pm. No one under the age of 18 will be admitted. Admission is free and you may bring your own snacks. I Drink Your Blood is a cult horror film originally released in 1970. The film was written and directed by David E. Durston, produced by Jerry Gross, and starred Bhaskar Roy Chowdhury and Lynn Lowry (who is uncredited in the film). Like many B-movies of its time, I Drink Your Blood was a Times Square exploitation film and drive-in movie theater staple.

This event is made possible through the generosity of Dave and Ruth Parsons who are lending us the movie and Sharon Springs Central School for the loan of the projector.

Annual Meeting of the Board of Trustees

Annual meeting of the Board of Trustees will be held on Thursday, October 25th at 7pm at the Sharon Springs Free Library

All registered patrons of the Sharon Springs Free Library who are 18 and older are encouraged to attend the Annual meeting of the Board of Trustees. At this meeting you will receive an update on the past year’s events at the Library; an update on the Building Project; and, more importantly, voice your say in the future of The Sharon Springs Free Library, by voting.

Registered patrons are actually the people responsible for voting for the Board of Trustees for the Sharon Springs Free Library. Every year, a few trustee terms expire. Many trustees will of course run for re-election. However from time to time, as there are this year, new volunteers step forward for your consideration. A list of nominees will be available at the library after October 1st.

This year please plan to attend the Annual Meeting on Thursday, October 25th at 7pm and place your vote for four trustee positions.
