They're here! The books for our Humanitites NY Reading and Discussion sessions have arrived. The first session is scheduled for September 4 at 6:00 p.m. at which our discussion leader, Dr. Emily Daniels, will provide some background information and a brief syllabus, and the group will read and discuss some of the poems from "The Collected Poems of Audre Lorde." Fifteen copies of the four books have been loaned to us for the discussion period. Copies may be signed out at the library. Come join us for something completely new at Sharon Springs Free Library.

Serious readers are invited to a four-part reading and discussion course on the writing of Audre Lorde, thanks to a grant from Humanities New York. The discussions will be held on four Wednesday nights (September 4 and 18, October 2 and 16) led by Dr. Emily Daniels. Lorde was an essayist and poet whose works speak to questions of race, class, gender, and sexuality. Four texts will be provided for use to the first fifteen participants; “Warrior Poet” a biography of Lorde, “Sister Outsider, a collection of Lorde’s essays, Lorde’s “Cancer Journals,” and finally, “The Collected Poems of Audre Lorde.” Additional details are available at the library. There will be no charge the sessions, but signing up will help us know how many to expect.
